How to Create and Manage Assignments

Claiming an Item

Claiming an item means taking ownership of a congregant’s engagement alert or opportunity. When you claim an item, it creates an assignment on your dashboard so you can follow up and make a touchpoint.

Example

If John Doe is marked At Risk due to attendance and you plan to reach out, you should first claim his engagement item. This ensures the system tracks your follow-up accurately.

How to Claim an Item

  1. Go to the Alerts or Opportunities tab.

  2. Select an engagement category.

  3. Locate the congregant’s profile card.

  4. Click Assign.

  5. Choose your name and select Assign User.

To assign the item to someone else, select their name instead.

You can also claim an item directly from the congregant’s profile.

Best Practice:
Always claim an item before creating a touchpoint in Nurture. This ensures the Insights page reflects accurate engagement data.

Filtering to Claim an Item

To help you focus on the congregants who have not been claimed, you can filter items in both the Alerts and Opportunities tabs.

  • Claim Status:

    • Click Claimed once (turns blue) to view claimed items.

    • Click Claimed twice (turns red) to view unclaimed items.

Creating an Action Item

An action item is a task created for yourself or another user related to a specific congregant. Action items are often used when follow-up requires a specific next step.

Example

If John Doe is in the hospital and needs a pastoral visit, you can create an action item and assign it to the appropriate staff member.

How to Create an Action Item

  1. Open the congregant’s profile.

  2. Locate Action Items on the right-hand side.

  3. Click the plus (+) button to create a new task.

  4. Choose the action type:

    • Email

    • Call

    • Text

    • Meet

    • Other

  5. Enter a clear description (e.g., John is in the hospital following a liver transplant and has requested prayer and a visit.)

  6. Select the relevant engagement category.

  7. Assign the task to yourself or another user.

  8. Set a due date.

Taking Action on Assignments

All assignments appear on your dashboard under My Priorities in the Active tab.

Assignment Statuses

  • Not Started

    • No touchpoints recorded

    • Marked in purple

    • Listed at the top of the feed

  • In Progress

    • One or more touchpoints recorded

    • Marked in yellow

    • Move lower in the feed

Creating Touchpoints

You can initiate touchpoints directly in Nurture. Simply click on the assignment title under My Priorities to open your touchpoint options.

Messaging Touchpoints

For Text, Email, or Call, choose one of the following options:

  • Send a message now

  • Log a message you have already sent

  • Log a message you have received

Then:

  1. Enter your subject and message.

  2. Send using your messaging app or an integrated service (such as Clearstream, if enabled by your church) by choosing send now.

Meetings

For In-Person or Online Meetings, log the meeting to track the interaction.

All touchpoints are saved in the activity feed for visibility. You can also open the congregant’s profile and create touchpoints from there.

Marking an Assignment as Complete

Once you’ve completed all necessary follow-up for a congregant, you can mark the assignment as Complete. This moves it to the Marked Complete tab, indicating no further action is required.

Resolved Items

If a congregant’s engagement level changes for example, from At Risk to Active or Disengaged, the item automatically resolves and moves to the Resolved tab. Resolution is based on the congregant’s decision. The user assigned cannot resolve a status.
